It was the sixth and final race of the Vancouver Island Trail Series. There were 106 male finishers and 110 female finishers today at the Qualicum Beach trail event. The race winner was Brad Goresky of Victoria in 1:57:24. ![]() Her time was 2:11:05 and she was the first female to finish. Patricia placed 13th overall of 216 finishers at the Qualicum Beach Trail Race held in Qualicum Beach today. More impressive was that she was the first woman overall at Mt Washington with an incredible 3 minute margin, and a close second at Port Alberni. Holly Pirozzini F6069 was the star of the series finishing with a perfect 80 points over 6 short course races. Andrew was the top Harrier in the Long Course awards with 34 points good for 2nd in his M3039 category. Gary Duncan was second in his category with 60 points from 5 age-group wins in 5 races. Mark also finished first in the M6069 category while Brandon was first in M2029 with 47 points. Mark was the top Harrier in the 6 race Island Trail Series overall Short Course awards with 65 age-group placement points in a system that gives 10 points for 1st, 9 for 2nd, etc with points doubled at the two harder races of Cobble Hill and Mt Washington. Steve believes in high mileage training as he has run over 3,000 kilometres so far in 2023 and has 2 more months to go. Steve placed 66th of 216 finishers in 1:05:04 at the Qualicum Bay Trail Race and was third in the M40 division the next day at the Cowichan Autumn Classic. Steve, a new club member this year, ran back-to-back races at the Qualicum Bay Trail Series on October 21 and the following day at the Cowichan Autumn Classic 5K in Duncan on October 22 and he did well in both events. The top female in the Combo was Meg Lewis-Schneider of Victoria who ran the 5K in 18:21 and the 10K in 37:12 for a combined time of 55:33 good for second overall. ![]() These were not the best times though, as home town Dusty Spiller ran the 5K in 16:20 then ran the 10K in 34:05 to win the Combo race in a combined time of 50:24. The men’s 10K race winner was Duncan's Thomas Duke in 38:38, and Zoe in 38:56, while the 5K race winners were Nanaimo’s Jason Basaur in 16:39, and Victoria’s Scalette Devonte in 16:56. His time was 22:40, just 3 seconds behind fellow back-to-back teammate Steve Hallam who zipped past in the final 100m to place 12th overall in 22:37. Gary topped the M6069 division finishing 13th overall of 229 finishers in the accompanying 5K race. Zoe was the first female in 38:56 and she finished an incredible third overall of 161 finishers in the 10K race. Honourable mention goes to Marcia Stromsmoe who completed her 125th Park Run today by winning her age category in 30:08. The race winners were Matthew Winkler, in 18:50, and Kaylee Bertrand, in 22:13. 2023 Runner of the Week Harriers Runner of the WeekĬhris completed his remarkable 145th Clover Point 5K Park Run today by placing 15th overall of 77 finishers his time was 24:17. ![]()
